What age group do your educational materials target?

CFOC's abstinence-based educational tools target 9- to 14-year-olds with messages about sexual responsibility. Some of the materials include activities for the parent/guardian as well. Materials may also be adapted for older adolescents.

Do you sell sexuality education curriculum that can be used for a 3 month course?

CFOC has several lesson plans that cover a variety of topics including: decision-making, refusal skills, abstinence, HIV/AIDS, parent/child communication, values, and other topics. However, these are individual lessons NOT a complete curriculum. The lessons include activities that can take up to one to three hours of classroom teaching. The materials can easily be used with another sexuality education curriculum.

Have any of your materials been evaluated?

Yes, our materials have been evaluated. Before any poster, billboard, TV or radio commercial is produced, CFOC conducts several focus groups with the targeted audience to gain feedback. During the focus groups, CFOC questions individuals to discover if they understand the message and what type of effect it had on them and if it motivated them to change their behavior.

In addition to focus groups, CFOC also conducted evaluations in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center of Communication Programs. The research found: that attitudes about abstinence have improved over the course of the campaign, which began in Maryland during 1987; and children who are exposed to the campaign are more likely to discuss issues of sexuality with others, particularly parents. There are also full media campaigns using CFOC materials in other states that are conducting similar evaluations. Click here for more information about CFOC's evaluation.
